A deep mulberry Banarasi saree illuminated by individually placed floral motifs and an exuberant rani-pink border. Tested zari moves from generous blossoms and curling vines into a richly geometric pallu, while restrained pink and yellow Meenakari accents animate the darker body.

Mulberry Durbar is built around the theatre of contrast.

The body carries the depth of aged mulberry—somewhere between wine, aubergine and dark maroon. Across this restrained ground, individual floral motifs appear like ceremonial emblems, touched sparingly with rani pink and yellow.

At the border, restraint gives way to splendour.

A vivid rani-pink ground arrives beneath large zari flowers and foliage, creating an almost illuminated edge against the darker body. The pallu becomes more elaborate still: floral panels move into a disciplined geometric field of interlocking squares, stars and architectural divisions.

It feels like entering a durbar after dusk—the approach quiet and measured, the interior suddenly radiant with colour, pattern and gold.

Styling suggestion

Pair it with antique gold jewellery to amplify the richness of the pallu. Rubies or garnets will connect the wine and rani-pink tones, while emeralds can introduce a classic contrasting accent. The striped rani-pink blouse creates a dramatic finish; a tonal wine blouse would make the saree quieter and more formal.
